Water Navigation Funding
As a board member of the Coosa Alabama River Improvement Association, I am very interested in keeping the rivers in Alabama navigable. This does require funds that are sent through the US Corps of Engineers. Without our waterways we lose a major source of transportation. Funding includes dredging the waterways, maintaining the dams and locks in good shape, and providing buoys and markers along the waterways. As seen in the recent months passed, we have allowed some of our locks and dams to fall below minimum standards. This has caused a few to fail. As your senator I would like to work closely with the US Corps of Engineers and other governing bodies in order to provide funding to continue to make our main waterways navigable. This specifically includes the Alabama River from Mobile to Montgomery, the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, the Tennessee River, and the Black Warrior River to Birmingham.
