Energy in Alabama

Coal production in Alabama in 2008 was 19,600,000 tons before the years of the Obama regulations took place. Our coal production was forced back to 11,100,000 tons in 2020. Today Alabama still ranks 14th nationwide in coal production. In 2024 we produced 13,365,000 tons of high quality coal. As your senator, I will hard to have some of those regulations placed on cola producers years ago removed and allow our coal producers to ramp up their production. This is job paying jobs for Alabamians. It also still remains a clean source of electrical energy production in our state as well as a huge boost for our economy.

Hydroelectric production in Alabama makes us the 5th largest producer in the United States and the 2nd largest producer in the Eastern United States. Hydroelectric is one of the State’s renewable energy resources. We have several companies in Alabama that produce hydroelectric power including Tennessee Valley Authority, Alabama Power Company, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative and Exelon Generation. Together these companies produce electric energy that is distributed throughout the southeast and as far away as California. As your Senator, I will work with each of these companies, protecting our water rights on the Tallapoosa and Coosa Rivers as Georgia looks to contain the water and build new dams. You need someone who understands these changes and will fight for Alabama. This will not be handled on the State level, it will be handled in the federal arena through the Corps of Engineers in Washington.

We also build new dams on the Alabama River closer to the Gulf of America in order to provide additional electricity for the new AI data centers that are now being built in Alabama.

Natural Gas – In 2023 Alabama’s Natural Gas Production fell to its lowest levels since the early 1980’s producing 104,185 million cubic feet. In 2015, Alabama produced 162 Billion cubic feet of natural gas. This is a huge decrease. Alabama is home to many natural resources including Natural Gas. As your Senator, I want to help these companies through regulations and funding to be able to “Drill Baby Drill”. This will strengthen our economy and put a lot of skilled young people to work in the oil fields of Alabama.

Crude Oil – Many people are not aware of the significant oil sands in the State Of Alabama. We have very large oil reserves in the Gulf of America and in West and South Alabama including Covington, Conecuh, and Mobile Counties. Alabama has a very good Oil and Gas Board. In 2015, Alabama produced 64 million barrels of crude oil and contributed $11.3 Billion to the Alabama Economy, which was 6.4% of the GDP, Gross Domestic Product. Alabama remains 17th in the nation for oil production. Alabama is also home to at least three producing refinery plants that are tucked away in our countryside. Most people didn’t know that Alabama produces diesel fuel and gasoline along with many other derivatives each day. We have to get crude oil up just a few dollars more to make it feasible for American Oil Companies to drill and produce. It has to be at $70 per barrel at the least. I would love to know that as I drive my truck I am filling it up with American Fuel from American soil. I will promise to be your Senator who helps Alabama business to “Drill Baby Drill”.
