Highways & Infrastructure
Our Federal Highways and Interstates are quickly falling apart. The federal government over the past administrations have failed to fund the repaving and upgrading of our Federal Highways and Interstate systems. We have become an “as needed” or “emergency repair” culture. I want to work to appropriate money to ALDOT to unleash the largest paving and widening projects in decades. Everyone knows that all over the State that our roads are filled to maximum capacity. We must start a long-term Federal assisted plan to widen our roads and bridges while performing much needed maintenance on our existing Federal highways and Interstates. Alabama currently receives roughly $1,000,000,000 in annual federal highway funding. Alabama also is projected to receive $5,800,000,000 in federal formula highway funding over five years from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This is 32% more than Alabama’s previous funding levels from the US Government.
